The suspect arrested in connection with Long Island's Gilgo Beach murders has an older brother who killed a police captain in 1988 after striking him with his car while high on cocaine.
Rex Heuermann, 59, was dramatically arrested last night in midtown Manhattan outside his architectural office on Fifth Avenue, 13 years after the bodies were found.
Heuermann's brother Craig, 57, crashed through the central median of a local highway near Rex's Long Island home while going over 60 miles per hour in 1988.
This led to a head-on collision with Winnion Buskey, then 51 and the city's Housing Authority Police Captain.
Buskey was pronounced dead on the scene, while Heuermann was hospitalized with facial lacerations before being taken into custody.

The judge in the case cited police records calling Heuermann 'intoxicated and 'coked-up' condition at the time,'
Craig Heuermann pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated.
It's unclear what punishment Heuermann received.
Records show that Heuermann now lives in South Carolina.
Rex Heuermann is suspected in the murders of the 'Gilgo Beach four' - four prostitutes whose remains were found on the Long Island beach in December 2010.
Today, the 6ft 6 suspect was charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Megan Waterman.
During an initial court appearance, he appeared smug - puffing his cheeks out and nodding as some of the charges were read. He pleaded not guilty to all six charges - three counts of first degree murder, and three of second degree murder.
After the hearing, his attorney said he cried to him 'I did not do this.'
