Established in 1977 The Hong Kong International Film Festival is an annual event that showcases the talent from the Chinese and Asian region whilst also promoting films from other parts of the world in order to enhance the film culture in Hong Kong.
Organised by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society the event seeks to promote films from the Chinese region and educate and enrich Hong Kong culture. Such has been the success of the international event that it has gone on to become probably the largest film event in Asia.
The year 2011 marks the 35th edition of the world renowned event. As in the past this year too will feature many novice Hong Kong film productions, live Draw Hk music performances, conferences, panel discussions, exhibitions, forums, seminars and parties that bring together patrons, icons and novices of the film world.
Featuring over 300 films usually, the films are screened in 11 theatre venues across Hong Kong. Premiers are star studded red carpet events that draw international press coverage.
Past distinguished participants at the festival have included international stars such as Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Stone, Philippe Claudel and Marie Nyrerod as well as Chinese stars Jackie Chan, Angelica Lee, Tony Leung, and Daniel Wu.
